Say “Ee–kay–yuh”
December 2nd, 2005
A friend from Vienna writes:

“Here’s an IKEA anecdote for you– in Austria, and I assume much of Europe as well, it is pronounced Ee–kay–yuh. But in America they seem to pronounce it “I-key-uh,” much the same way many Americans pronounce it “Eye-rack.” The last time I was in America, someone said they were going to Eye–key–uh and asked if I wanted to go along. I had to ask three times what they were talking about.”
Thanks JC!

in Sweden we say Ee-ke-ah
