Ikea fan plans to be first in line

February 22nd, 2006

Curtis Carroll sent us a copy of the February 11th issue of the
Sacramento Bee which had an article about Glenn Reynolds who is already
camped out at the new IKEA store:

“Reynolds says he’s a dedicated Ikea fan but his concrete campout
isn’t just about pride in inexpensive, smartly designed furniture. If
Reynolds doesn’t break any contest rules and remains first in line, he
stands to collect a $ 3,000 Ikea gift card…”

Experienced IKEA Store Manager Recruited to Lead Michigan Store

February 21st, 2006

IKEA, a leading home furnishings retailer, today announced the appointment of
Mark McCaslin as store manager for the IKEA store opening this summer in Canton,
MI. The store will be the Swedish company’s first in Michigan and 28th in the
U.S. (The closest IKEA stores are in the Chicago area and in greater
Toronto.)

“We are very excited about opening a store in Canton, where the
location will attract customers from throughout the state and region,” noted
IKEA North America president Pernille Lopez. “Mark McCaslin’s experience as a
store manager, and Midwestern roots, have prepared him for managing our store in
the Detroit area, where there are customers who already are IKEA fans as well as
consumers who may not know us yet.”

“IKEA recognizes the strong customer
base that exists for us in Michigan, so I am very pleased about the opportunity
to provide these customers with a store right here in Canton,” explained
McCaslin. “I also look forward to introducing new customers to our unique
family-friendly shopping experience and wide selection of stylish, functional
and affordable home furnishings.”

McCaslin, who has relocated recently to
the Detroit area from Long Island, New York, has served in several key retail
positions prior to becoming store manager of IKEA Canton. A native of Illinois,
he started his IKEA career in Summer 1998 as the logistics manager of IKEA
Schaumburg (IL), that opened in November of that year, and in 2001 became
assistant store manager of sales at that store.

A South Florida store for IKEA

February 19th, 2006

“Florida IKEA fans: The wait will soon be over.

The retailer known for its
cheap, chic furniture confirmed Tuesday that it has landed a site in Sunrise
after searching for a South Florida location for almost five years.

The
293,000-square-foot store, which will be the first south of Atlanta, will be
built on the site of the former Blockbuster Golf and Games. Construction is
scheduled to begin this spring with an opening scheduled for summer
2007.

IKEA has spent the past few years searching for a site along the 595
corridor in Broward County. The idea was that a central location would make it
easier for consumers coming from throughout the tri-country area and even the
west coast of Florida. The company had previously considered a Davie location
but ran into objections from the community and development problems with the
site.
”It’s been a challenge to find the perfect location, but we think we
have,” said Joseph Roth, IKEA’s North American spokesman. “It is so accessable
to Palm Beach County, as well as Miami-Dade.”

IKEA eventually envisions
having more than one location in South Florida, with the possibility of another
site in Miami-Dade County. Discussions have frequently centered on a potential
site at the Mall of the Americas…”

Fresh Finds from Decor8

February 13th, 2006

Dcr

“Here’s a fresh find that you may like, especially with all the fantastic lacey
doily goodies hitting stores everywhere. When I laid eyes on the IKEA PS Ekekull
stool for only $13, my brain went into overdrive, considering possible ways to
use it in my space since I don’t need additional seating. One idea I had on a
budget is to place a large vase on top with a beautiful branch extending out,
something you can find at your local park.

Dcr2

Look for a naked branch with
extending arms for hanging little photos or small images using metal clip hooks
(remove the clip with the little hook from the large ring and use the small hook
to hang the clip from the branch). You can even purchase felt leaves from the
craft store, the tiny ones used for scrapbooking, and clip them onto your
special tree art. Clip on anything that is small and light to inspire you.
Feathers, tiny squares of fabric, small collaged images, let your imagination
soar!”
