IKEA Orlando To Open In Fall 2007
“IKEA, a leading home furnishings retailer, expressed its appreciation to the
Orlando [FL] City Council for the body’s approval of a proposed IKEA store in
Central Florida increasing the Swedish retailer’s planned presence in Florida
and the Southeastern U.S. This City Council approval today follows the Municipal
Planning Board’s recommendation last month to approve plans for the store.
Pending permits, construction of the future IKEA Orlando can begin later this
year, with an anticipated opening in Fall 2007…a store is (also) slated to
open Summer 2007 in the South Florida city of Sunrise.
IKEA is thrilled
and honored at the support voiced by the Orlando City Council in favor of our
opening a store in the area next year, said David Iemolo, real estate manager
for IKEA. While we already knew many in the area were IKEA customers, the
outpouring of interest since we announced our plans plus this approval by the
City makes us feel so welcome.
The plan approved in an unanimous city
council vote allows IKEA to build a 309,000 square-foot store, with its 1,200
parking spaces, on 22 acres off Eastgate Drive, south of Conroy Road, across
from the southeastern end of The Mall at Millenia. The future IKEA Orlando will
reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known
worldwide.
Besides offering nearly 10,000 exclusively designed items,
IKEA Orlando will feature three model homes, 50 room settings, a supervised
children’s play area, and a 300-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such
as meatballs with lingonberries and salmon plates, as well as American dishes.
Other family-friendly features will include a Children’s IKEA area in the
showroom, baby care rooms, preferred parking and play areas throughout the
store.”

I am sooooo stoked about the store in Orlando now we just need to speed up the process cause I just frove my last 6 hour trip to Ikea from Daytona and I’m ready for one to be my neighbor.
IKEA ROCKS!! I just moved to Tampa, FL from Detroit, MI and we used to shop there all the time… We’re looking forward to Orlando IKEA!!! The prices are awesome and the customer service is excellent…
rumor says Ikea opening in Tampa soon. Heard anything about that?
IKEA Coming to Tampa (ybor city) in 2009.
I’m throwing out my dining room set in anticipation of the Millenium Mall IKEA opening! Hurry!
I think it is only appropriate that IKEA be in Orlando, for the simple fact that after my initial visit to IKEA in Norristown, Pa., the only way I could describe it was that IKEA is the DisneyWorld of furniture. So, the match was inevitable.
I cant tell you how excited I am about Ikea coming to Orlando Fl. I moved to Orlando from New Jersey and since had to order online. I’m looking for to spending lots of time there.
Kudos to Ikea for the move!!!
We moved to Jacksonville from Chicago area and used to shop at IKEA-Schaumburg, and since then we had to shop online. We love IKEA and already have the list to buy on its opening day in Orlando. Can’t wait for the opening.
We moved to Holiday, Florida from Pasadena California, and I used to shop IKEA. I wish they could have IKEA in Tampa pretty soon, ever since I moved I go to California to visit and I have to go to IKEA for supplies, this is amaizing. IKEA is my store. I need new furniture the one I have from IKEA is out dated but I love it. Can’t wait for the opening.
I know it says opening fall of 2007 in Orlando, but when exactly in fall?
i am from california and I shopped ikea all the time however we also need a trader joes,,,dont you thinks so ?
orlando is not the only lucky florida city being graced with ikea. i live in fort lauderdale and our store (sunrise) opens october 17!!!!! not even 2 weeks away! i am so jazzed! my last visit to a store was back in 2000 in california. — so all of you tampa folks can hop on i-75 and head down here while you wait for the orlando store to open!
If you think shopping at the store is fun, try working for them. IKEA is amazing. I work in a corporate environment for my primary source of income, but… If I could have gotten in with IKEA when I graduated from College, I would have definatly made it my career. Only two months into it, and the store isn’t even open yet, I get a feeling each time that I walk through the door that I am apart of something great. Not just because it’s new, the company truly has the employee’s best interest in mind with each decision that is made. This is not a Wal-Mart / Target type store, and in my opinion, blows Crate and Barrel out of the water with price, quality and customer service. Come by on the 14th, I promise you will be impressed.
IKEA will be opening in Tampa in 2009 off Hwy 60 (Adamo Dr) just east of Ybor. I went to the IKEA Orlando grand opening this past Wed 11/14/07. What a rush. Was a great experience. So glad IKEA is in FL. About time…long overdue!
We live in NJ but just bought a house in the Villages. We have an Ikea kitchen in NJ and was wishing for an Ikea store in Florida so we can do another kitchen. We love the products and the styling is so fresh and modern you feel it will last forever. Our neighbor in NJ has houses in St. Maarten and has had cabinets send to him in containers by ship so we are such fans of Ikea. Thank you for coming to Florida !
when are you coming to Colorado? please.
My family and I were just in California and visited an Ikea for the first time. I have visited the website many times but the store was just amazing. We live in Colorado Springs, Colorado and would love to see a store in Denver. Please consider building one there! Ikea is such a family and budget friendly store we just can’t live without.
Having recently moved to the Boulder area from the UK we are astounded there is no IKEA in Colorado. We were lucky enough to live within 4 miles of the Birmingham store so were hoping to fill our new home here with more of the fabulous items IKEA had on sale there. We are so desperate I bought replacements for our broken and chipped dinner plates and bowls the last time I was back in the UK and brought them back in my baggage. PLEASE PLEASE IKEA open a store here, you will not regret it !!
We moved to Colorado Springs in 2000 and have been patiently waiting for an Ikea Store to open here in Colorado. Come on Ikea!!! I know the catchment area here is huge, please hurry and build your Colorado Store!
